STEVE MIKELMAN
Chief of Staff
Houston Housing Authority
Dr. Steve Mikelman received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from UCLA where he specialized in areas of education and management. He joined the affordable housing industry in 1984 when he began working with San Diego Housing Commission where he served until 2002. During that time, he served in several capacities including: Program & Policy Development Manager, Lending & Compliance Manager and Director of Operations. While at the San Diego Housing Commission, he played key roles in development of the City of San Diego Housing Trust Fund, customer service initiatives, internal process improvements and strategic planning.
Dr. Mikelman began his most recent position as Chief of Staff at Houston Housing Authority 1 week before Hurricane Katrina struck in August 2005. He views Hurricane Katrina as a life altering event for those directly impacted and those who provided emergency services. His current areas of responsibility include: Human Resources, Customer Service and Compliance, and resolving issues across the agency.
