Julie Bornstein serves as the President of the Campaign for Affordable Housing. Ms. Bornstein brings a career in affordable housing, law and government to The Campaign for Affordable Housing. She served as Director of the California Department of Housing and Community Development in the Administration of Governor Gray Davis, leading the Department through its most productive years. She previously served as the Chief of Staff and Chief Deputy State Controller to Controller Kathleen Connell and was a member of the California State Assembly, serving as Chair of the Democratic Caucus—a leadership position. Prior to her election to the Assembly, Ms. Bornstein served as an elected Trustee of the Desert Community College District, serving as its President in 1991.

Ms. Bornstein has served as a Board member of the California Rural Development Council, the California Housing Partnership Corporation, the California Housing Finance Agency, the Coachella Valley Housing Coalition and as an advisory member of the California Tax Credit Allocation and the California Debt Limit Allocation Committees. She currently serves as a member of the California Council for the Humanities and as a Governing Board member of the California Housing Consortium.

Ms. Bornstein, a native of San Diego, practiced real estate and business law in Los Angeles for 10 years after she received her BA and MA from UCLA and her law degree from the University of Southern California and in the Coachella Valley. She is also a licensed real estate broker and a credentialed community college instructor. Julie has been a member of the adjunct faculty at College of the Desert and the McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. Julie resides in Southern California with her husband, Steve Gordon. They have two sons.
