Liza K. Bowles is the General Manager of Newport Partners, a small business dedicated to the advancement of technology. Ms. Bowles has concentrated on business development for Newport Partners and helping small companies understand the information technology revolution. Over the two years, Ms. Bowles has had primary responsibility for two technology roadmapping efforts for the Department of Housing and Urban Development on Information Technology and Whole House and Building Process Redesign; lead responsibility on a military family housing project; as well as a variety of market research and strategic planning for private sector clients. A current focus is developing a Concept Home to showcase the future of housing technology.

As President of the NAHB Research Center from 1991 to 2002, Ms. Bowles focused on management, operations, marketing, and business and corporate development. Areas on which she focused the company's activities included innovative technology; energy and resource conservation; application of quality methods to home building; establishment of national quality awards for construction, remodeling, and energy efficiency; affordable housing; accessible housing for the elderly and handicapped; expanded programs for laboratory testing of building materials; certification of installers of building products; construction of research houses; recycling and reuse of construction waste; and use of new communications media to distribute information to builders and the public. During her tenure as President, the NAHB Research Center grew from a $1 Million unprofitable business to a $13 Million profitable business with significant assets.

Ms. Bowles has substantial experience as a speaker and author of numerous publications. She has served on numerous committees and boards including the National Institute of Building Science and the U. S. City Design Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Previous employment includes: Office of Community Planning and Development, HUD and Staff to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

She holds a B.A. in Political Science from Mary Washington College and a Masters in Urban Affairs from VA Tech.
